Dr Heike Kath

ABOUT

Graduate of the University of Qld in 2003. She completed several years of paediatric specialist training before deciding to become a GP. She has completed a Diploma in Paediatrics (Westmead Children’s Hospital).

Dr Kath moved to YourGP@Lyneham from Jervis Bay in 2014 for her husband to take a lecturing position in painting at the School of Art. They have a young daughter.

Dr Kath has a special interest in children’s health and women’s health. Her family grew up on an orchard in Far North Queensland and she loves to grow things, from vegetables to bee-keeping. She keeps active with walking and yoga.

Dr Freya Ashman

A graduate of the University of Sydney in 2011. Dr Ashman has a Diploma in Paediatrics (Westmead Children’s Hospital). She has special interests in paediatrics, women’s health and mental health. Dr Ashman has a passion for teaching and is a medical educator for local GPs in training and medical students.

Dr Ashman chose medicine and general practice as she was interested in everything and didn’t want to narrow down to one specialty. She says she loves hearing people’s stories. She started working at Lyneham as a registrar in her last year of training in 2015. On finishing she decided to continue at Lyneham as she has enjoyed caring for our patients and the professional, warm and supportive atmosphere of the practice.

Outside of work she enjoys reading and writing fiction, singing and ice-skating.

Dr John Deery

Graduate of the University of NSW in 2000.

From the moment John started General Practice in 2003, he desired to one day open a practice. He is passionate about growing YourGP to fulfil the practice vision of ‘genuine care, clinical excellence’. John has spoken for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners to encourage other GPs who would like to open their own practices.

John practices in all areas of general practice with special interests in sports medicine, paediatrics, men’s health and minor surgery, including tongue tie release. He does a Friday morning vasectomy clinic at the YourGP@Crace theatre, see canberravasectomy.com.au for more details.

John loves sport and was previously a school Australian decathlon champion. He played for the St George Dragons, the Sydney City Roosters and Sydney University Rugby while studying. More recently he has developed a passion for table tennis. He has just taken the title of YourGP tablet tennis champion from Dr Kit Wong.

John is a devoted IT geek and keeps the practice up to date with technology.

John and Mel have three gorgeous children. They have a strong Christian faith.

Mel says she loves being a GP and a practice owner. Along with her husband John, she is passionate about developing YourGP to better fulfil the vision of ‘genuine care, clinical excellence’. She feels privileged to work alongside such an amazing team of doctors, nurses and administrative staff.

Dr Kyla Bremner

Dr Bremner is a graduate of the University of Sydney with honours in 2006.
Dr Bremner worked for several years as a GP and Emergency doctor in a remote town on the coast of Canada, accessible only by boat or plane. She returned to Australia in 2014 to make Canberra her long-term home.
She has special interests in paediatrics, women’s health, menopause, aged care and lifestyle modification. She says loves the variety of General Practice and building relationships with patients. She enjoys being able to support people to improve their physical and emotional health.
Dr Bremner was the first woman to represent Australia in wrestling at the 2008 Olympics. She married the coach of the Polish Olympic team and they have three young boys. They continue to enjoy wrestling and coaching.

Dr Kit Wong

Dr Wong grew up in Sydney and graduated from the University of Sydney with honours in 2006. He moved to Canberra as his wife grew up here and they thought it would be a great place to bring up their two boys.

Dr Wong has done a Diploma in Paediatrics (Westmead Children’s Hospital). Prior to studying medicine, he was a physiotherapist for five years, which gives him excellent skills in sports medicine.

He has special interests in paediatrics, sports medicine, men’s health and skin cancer medicine. He is doing a Masters in Skin Cancer Medicine.

He chose general practice because of the range of medicine and the people he has the privilege of meeting. He feels like he can help people and that gives a great sense of job satisfaction. He chose Crace as he enjoys the environment, staff and colleagues as well as the opportunity to work in an area with lots of younger families similar to his own.

Outside of work Dr Wong enjoys spending time with his family, keeping fit with tennis, golf, touch football and basketball. He loves the Sydney Swans.

Dr Kristin O’Neill

Graduate of the University of Sydney with first class honours, 1998. Dr O’Neill has worked as a GP in Sydney, Dubai and most recently Singapore where she looked after expat Australians and New Zealanders, along with patients from eight different countries.

Her family returned to Australia in 2014 to make Canberra their long-term home.

Dr O’Neill enjoys all aspects of general practice with special interests in paediatrics, dermatology and travel medicine. She has two children.

Graduate of the University of Auckland in 1981. Dr Hewitt completed her GP training in Christchurch before moving to Australia in 1989. She worked in Belconnen as a GP for twenty-five years before moving to YourGP@Crace in 2014.

Special interests are skin cancer medicine/surgery and women’s health, but most of her practice is true general practice. Julie has two daughters. Outside of work she loves to stay active with her partner, they enjoy skiing, cycling, running and gardening. Julie regularly travels to New Zealand where she is growing vineyards and setting up a truffle farm.

He has three young children. We hear from his previous practice that he is lovely with kids and they adore him.

Dr Chan grew up in Auckland. He moved to Canberra in 2011 to finish his studies in medicine at the ANU. He loves Canberra so he stayed.
